The Daily News is a New York City-based tabloid newspaper, founded in 1919. It was the first tabloid newspaper in the United States, and at one time boasted a circulation of more than 200,000 copies a day. The paper was once locked in a fierce battle for readership with the more sensational rival New York Post, but has seen its circulation steadily decline since the mid-20th century. The News is now a division of tronc, which acquired the paper for $1 in 2017.

The paper has also maintained a number of regional news operations, including New York City, Long Island and Connecticut.
