Entertaiment is a word that has been around for a long time. It is one of the most used words in the English language and has 19 different meanings listed by the OED (see ‘Meaning & use’). It has been around for over 1500 years and has proven to be highly adaptable as well. It has been able to be modified and adapted on all scales, from an individual choosing their own entertainment in the now vast array of pre-recorded products; to a banquet adapted for two; or performances for thousands. The idea of entertainment is usually associated with amusement, but it can also be a way to achieve insight or intellectual growth.
