Entertaiment is an enormous field that encompasses anything from solving a crossword puzzle to attending a lavish party. The word entertain comes from the Latin intertenere, which means “to hold inside.” The prefix inter signifies “inside,” and the suffix tenere suggests holding or keeping something in mind. It has been used in the form of a noun since at least the late 15th century.
