Law & Society Fellows Go to Congress
NYLS students in the Congressional Consumer and Civil Justice Clinic recently traveled to Washington, D.C., where they presented their work on a variety of important bills that are currently pending in Congress.
Asylum Clinic student Rich McKeon ’24 is fighting for the rights of a man who fled from his home country because of a well-founded fear of persecution. His case is the latest in a string of successes for the NYLS asylum clinic.
Constitutional law: The branch of law that deals with constitutional issues, such as how a government is formed and the limits on its power. Constitutional law also explains the fundamental principles that govern the people of a state or nation and outlines their main rights.
Criminal law: The branch of law that deals with criminal cases and the punishments for crimes. It also explains the rights of witnesses and the procedure used in court.
Domestic relations law: The New York State laws that cover divorce and related marriage actions and proceedings. It also explains custody and visitation of children, the rights of property owners in real estate, and how to handle domestic violence situations.
